WATER CRISIS; HOW CURRICULUM CAN HELP?

SUSTAINABLE CURRICULUM TO REDUCE WATER CRISIS

Water is one of the essential resources for daily life. We all need water in order to survive. The need for water itself is not limited to the source of drink and for bath only. To protect and restore the water is essential when it is connected to the ecosystem. The water has been polluted by irresponsible people which causes a lot of troubles and worries to the citizens, organization- public and private sector, as well as the government. According to (Hermesauto, 2020) from News Strait Times reported that ever since the water supply has been cut due to river pollution, a number of people in four districts in Klang Valley have been affected. As we can see that when water pollution happens in certain places, people at that place will be affected as the water supply is limited. These will raise public anger as it affects the daily basis work such as cooking, bathing, eating and others. One of the goals for the water crisis in Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) is to ensure water access to people has no limitation and to provide a drink with quality and safe water. By that, some parties that are responsible for ensuring water access and providing clean water are governments, private and public sectors, as well as school curriculum approaches.

School curriculum can help to ensure all this problem can be solved by practising good works and mindset with students. Schools can practice the slogan “Save water for the world” in which students only can use water not more than a bottle in a day. There is a limitation of water supply in a school where if they used more than they should, the water is automatically off and they cannot use the bathroom anymore because there is no water at all. This kind of effort can help to give exposure to students that using water with prudence is a must and always save water, do not ever waste the water. Furthermore,a school can help this issue by raising awareness among students that having clean and safe water is essential on a daily basis to ensure that every work can be done perfectly. For instance, if you want to drink water, could you drink water that has been polluted with a brownish colour, with some sort of rubbish such as plastics, and with oily water. By doing that, students are aware that having clean water is important so that they can have quality and safe water. In addition,  schools can help to educate students on how to save water by providing a container for art students, so that they can use that container to wash their brushes. They just need to gather all the brushes and clean them once. By doing that, they know that there are a lot of ways to save water. Other than that, the school can give awareness to the students to not easily throw rubbish or any dangerous liquid in the river, ocean, or even at any places. They should always practice only throwing or dumping rubbish or anything only at its places like a dustbin and trash. By doing those irresponsible actions such as throwing things in rivers this will cause water pollution and damage to the water supply. Imagine drinking water that has been polluted, it will cause you stomach ache, poisoning, and other illnesses.

In conclusion, the school curriculum plays a vital role in helping to reduce the use of water as well as in educating students on the importance of water for a single individual. Educating students at school can give a vast impact on the world. As we all know, an action can save the entire world. Having a little tiniest action such as throwing rubbish into a trash can, can helps to reduce or have no water pollution.
