OPINION ON SEJAHTERA

SEJAHTERA ON INTELECTUAL ELEMENTS (EDUCATION)

Sejahtera is known as balanced wellbeing, prosperity, peace, and tranquillity which covers internal and external. It is widely used in Malaysia and Indonesia as the foundation of human existence in various elements. There are almost 8 elements of Sejahtera that apply to the dimensions of societal, physio-psychological, intellectual, cognitive, economic as well as ecological, and cultural which are considered as SPICES. Sejahtera plays an important role in developing, nurturing, and sustaining the progress of a country such as Malaysia. It helps to balance the education needs which cater for all aspects; poor and rich students, smart students, special education students and all that. Sejahtera in education plays a vital role in nurturing the values across the national education system, be it in schools, higher education institutions or even the various ministerial organisations nationwide.

Before having the term Sejahtera, education is merely focusing on producing great and successful students that will raise the country’s name but by having Sejahtera the aim is to produce a well-balanced in the aspects of physical, emotional, spiritual as well as ethical students which encompasses collaborative learning. Furthermore,  it aims in nurturing humility in one to be open to cooperative and collaborative learning and open to criticism and feedback from others. Also in education, Sejahtera aims to provide students with the best quality of education that serves only the best to all kinds of students.

In regard to the pandemic situation, Sejahtera helps the authority to give the best for students. the government had provided the internet initiative to the needy students to receive an equal education need as the M40 and T20 students. As we move along to online learning, some students may have difficulty in providing themselves with equipment such as laptops, smartphones, and internet accessibility, which Sejahtera approach has helped those students by providing them with what they need. Those students have an option to return back to campus to have better internet access which will help them to learn easily.

I experienced Sejahtera in the aspect of education when there is a transition from teacher-centred learning to student-centred learning which helps students to explore more on the particular topic by themselves. The implementation of it has helped students to be more creative and critical thinkers in order for them to experiment with things. Students have the authority to speak out their opinion and ideas of something more open than before. Sejahtera also had provided education with advanced technologies which help students to be tech-savvy and be able to develop different kind of techniques or approach in teaching and learning. Although there are a lot of changes in the system which helps to sustain the country for a better future, the students in need are also included in those. They are not left behind and even authorities had provided a lot of initiatives to cater to the different background of students and not limit to some. Also, through the advancement and improvement took, teacher nowadays are capable to teach students in various field and ways. Government makes it compulsory for teachers to undergo improvement program periodically to make sure that teachers are keeping up to date with technologies and different way of teaching and learning for different kind of students.
